North Maluku

In the Dutch era, the Moluccas were known as the Spice Islands and were the only place on earth where nutmeg, mace, cloves and several other valuable spices were grown.

There are two major islands in North Maluku province, Halmahera and Ternate. Both North Maluku and Maluku are blessed with incredible sea gardens, idyllic, tropical beaches and rugged, forest-coated volcanic mountains.

Major tourist attractions in North Maluku:

  • The Sultanate of Ternate. There was once a sultanate at the west coast of the larger island of Halmahera, which is called Sultanate of Ternate. The historical building and crown of Sultanate of Ternate is one of attraction to see in this province
  • North Maluku is very famous for the beauty of its islands. Islands such as Dodola, Kokoya, Ngele-ngele, Gab-gab are islands with white sand tropical beaches
  • The rich undersea scene is also available at several islands. Mare, Sambiki, Kayoa, Maitara, and Tidore islands are famous for their beautiful sea gardens and white sandy beaches
  • Cibi Cebi waterfall
