North Sumatra

North Sumatra is the northern province of Sumatra Island. It is located just below the Aceh Province. North Sumatra has more than 13 major towns such as Medan, Parapat and Pematangsiantar.

Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province, is the third largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya. Medan is known with its mouth-watering dishes that can be found on every corner of this city. The city is famous as “food tourism”, especially amongst Indonesian. Medan was called Kampung Medan (Medan village) in the early 1600. The name Medan apparently came from the Indian word “Meiden”, which means “recover” or “be better”.
